Turkish fir provenance Phytophthora Root Rot resistance screening field plot. This is a field trial to test the performance of different seed sources of Turkish fir for tolerance to Phytophthora root rot. The plot was arranged into 30 replicate blocks; the soil in each block was inoculated with a mixture of 5 different Phytophthora species; the trees were planted into the inoculated soil; and the plot was flooded for 48 hours to promote disease development. Mortality of seedlings was recorded and Phytophthora was isolated from each dead seedling to confirm disease and determine which species caused disease.
