Page 2 What is Cloud Computing? Cloud Computing is a technology that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. It allows businesses to use applications without installation and access their personal files at any computer with internet access. It provides software, data access and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services.

Page 3 Concept of Cloud Computing Cloud computing is internet(“cloud”) based development and use of computer technology (“computing”). Users need not have knowledge of or control over the technology infrastructure “in the cloud”. The term “cloud” is used as a metaphor for the internet, based on how the internet is depicted in computer network diagrams. Cloud computing is the utilization of many servers housed in many different locations and interconnected by high speed networks. The idea is that, instead of hosting all your applications and data on one server or in one location, make them mobile.

Page 4 Comparison Cloud Computing shares characteristics with following : Automatic computing Grid computing Client-Server model Utility computing Mainframe computers Peer-to-Peer

Page 5 Characteristics of Cloud Computing Device and Location independence Pay per use On-demand self service Rapid elasticity Reliability Scalability Performance Maintenance Security

Page 7 HOW IT WORKS

Page 8 Divided into two sections:- FRONT END BACK END The front end is the client's computer. The back end are the various computers servers and data storage systems that create the “cloud” section of the system. Broadly classified into three *aaS, i.e., three layers of Cloud Stack, also known as Cloud Service Models: a) Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) b) Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) c) Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Architecture of Cloud Computing

Page 9 Types of Clouds Public Cloud : It describes the cloud computing in the traditional mainstream sense, whereby resources are dynamically provisioned on self-service basis over the Internet from an off-side third-party provider who shares resources on a fine-grained utility computing basis. Private Cloud : It is infrastructure operated solely for a single organization, whether managed internally or by a third-party and hosted internally or externally. Hybrid Cloud : It is a composition of two or more clouds that remian unique entities but are bound together, offering the benefits of multiple deployment models.

Page 10 TechnologyKey FeatureWhat’s Missing Grid Computing Job scheduling across many machines Difficult to administer; Lacks broad applicability of cloud computing Virtualization Virtual machines decouple OS from hardware Fail to fundamentally solve scale and reliability IaaS Infrastructure-as-a- service Computational infrastructure available for rent Lacks security, vertical solutions, SaaS Software-as-a-Service Application availability through the cloud SaaS is an application on the cloud, not a cloud by itself Utility Computing Packaged computing, application, and storage sold as a service Describes a business model, not a technology or architecture Cloud Technologies

Page 12 Google Docs Google Docs is one of many cloud computing document-sharing services. It is a free, web-based office suite and data storage service offered by Google. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. 1GB storage is provided for free. For more than 1GB storage space we have to pay We can upload our files and create our new documents, spreadsheets, presentations on Google Docs. Documents can be shared, opened, and edited by multiple users at the same time. Documents can be tagged and archived for organizational purposes.

Page 13 Providers of cloud computing

Page 14 Conclusion Cloud computing might be more accurately described as "sky computing",with many isolated clouds of services which IT customers must plug into individually. Cloud computing is a better way to run your business. Instead of running your apps yourself, they run on a shared data center. When you use any app that runs in the cloud, you just log in, customize it, and start using it. That is the power of cloud computing. This lets you focus on deploying more apps, new projects, and innovation.
