For all the problems in this PPT you must give GENOTYPE and PHENOTYPE percentages/fractions. You also must answer whatever question is asked by the problem.

For all the problems in this PPT you must give GENOTYPE and PHENOTYPE percentages/fractions. You also must answer whatever question is asked by the problem – put a box around this answer! Genetic Review

Two other parents think their baby was switched at the hospital. The mother has blood type “A,” the father has blood type “B,” and the baby has blood type “AB.” Mother’s genotype: _______ or ________ Father’s genotype: _______ or ________ Baby’s genotype: ______ Punnett square that shows the baby’s genotype as a possibility: Was the baby switched?

Hemophilia is a sex linked trait. Cross a carrier of the hemophilia allele (must be female to be carrier) with a normal male. What are the chances that their daughters will have hemophilia? Sons?

In goats, a recessive gene causes goats to “faint” when they are startled. A farmer breeds two goats (that have never fainted) and their first offspring faints two days after its birth. What must the parents genotypes be? Show the cross to prove it.

The allele for black is B and the allele for white is W. The heterozygous phenotype is known as erminette (black and white spotted). a. What is the genotype for black chickens? ____ b. What is the genotype for white chickens? ____ c. What is the genotype for erminette chickens? ____ Codominance or incomplete dominance?

Two parents think their baby was switched at the hospital. Its 1968, so DNA fingerprinting technology does not exist yet. The mother has blood type “O,” the father has blood type “AB,” and the baby has blood type “B.” Mother’s genotype: _______ Father’s genotype: _______ Baby’s genotype: ______ or ________ Punnett square showing all possible genotypes for children produced by this couple Was the baby switched?

Two short-tailed (Manx) cats are bred together. They produce three kittens with long tails, five short tails, and two without any tails. From these results, how do you think tail length in these cats are inherited? Show the genotypes for both the parents and the offspring to support your answer.

A widow’s peak is a hairline is dominant to straight hairline. Cross a heterozygous widow’s peak hairline person with a straight hairline person.

In Andalusian fowls, black individuals (BB) and white individuals (WW) are homozygous. A homozygous black bird is crossed with a homozygous white bird. The offspring are all bluish-gray. Show the cross as well as the genotypes and phenotypes of the parents and offspring. Is this an example of incomplete or codominance?

Colorblindness is a SEX LINKED trait. Cross a color blind male with a normal female. What percentage of their offspring will be colorblind?

In humans, tongue rolling is a dominant trait and those with the recessive condition cannot roll their tongues. Bob can roll his tongue, but his mother could not. THINK ABOUT WHAT HIS GENOTYPE MUST BE!!! He is married to Sally, who cannot roll her tongue. What is the probability that their first born child will not be able to roll his/her tongue?

Some Americans can taste PTC while others cannot. The taster allele is dominant to the non-taster. In addition, normal skin pigmentation is dominant to albino. An albino woman who is a taster of PTC has a normally pigmented father who is taste blind for PTC. She marries a man who is normally pigmented and a taster, though his mother is an albino, non-taster. Cross the man and the woman to determine the genotypes and phenotypes of their offspring.

In rabbits, gray hair is dominant to white hair and black eyes are dominant to red eyes. Cross a homozygous (for both) rabbit that is grey with red eyes with a rabbit that is heterozygous for hair and homozygous for red eyes. Give answer in form of phenotypic ratio.
