Available (Adj)  Ready for use, at hand  Syn: obtainable, on hand  Ant: unobtainable, not to be had  Mangos are always available during the summer months, but they are more difficult to obtain during the winter.

Cater (V)  To satisfy the needs of, try to make things easy and pleasant; to supply food and service  Syn: pamper, indulge, gratify  Ant: frustrate, deny, refuse  When the children were sick, the mom tried to cater to their every need; she gave them milkshakes and French fries, while bringing them board games and movies.

Plague (N) (V)  An easily spread disease causing a large number of deaths; a widespread evil; to annoy or bother.  Syn: epidemic, pestilence, pester, vex  Ant: boon, blessing  Ebola is a plague that killed many people in Africa, including volunteers who were trying to help.

Poised (Adj)  Balanced, suspended; calm, controlled, ready for action.  Syn: collected, self-confident, ready  Ant: nervous, tense  The ballerina, though young, was poised as she glided across the stage.

Regime (N)  A government in power; a form or system of rule or management; a period of rule.  Syn: Rule  The regime that was in power during the early 20 th century was known for its fair taxes and just courts.

Transparent (Adj)  Allowing light to pass through; easily recognized or understood; easily seen through or detected.  Syn: clear, translucent, obvious  Ant: frosted, sooty, smoky, unclear, indistinct  The water in the Caribbean was so transparent that even 15 feet off the shore, you could clearly see the bottom.

Unscathed (Adj)  Wholly unharmed, not injured.  Syn: unhurt, sound, intact  Ant: injured, damaged, hurt  Even though the car was wrecked, the family was miraculously unscathed.
