Michele Punturo INFN Perugia and EGO 11st ELiTES meeting

Acronyms The acronym ELiTES stands for: ET LCGT Telescopes: Exchanges of Scientists When we prepared the proposal the new name of LCGT, “KAGRA” was not established 21st ELiTES meeting

Acronyms The acronym ELiTES stands for: ET LCGT Telescopes: Exchanges of Scientists It is an initiative supported by the European Commission under FP7-people FP7 is the short name for Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. This is the EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe and it runs from 2007 to People is the sector of FP7 devoted to the Human potential, career development, training and networking In particular, ELiTES is supported as IRSES: International Research Staff Exchange Scheme 31st ELiTES meeting

The ELiTES birth The need of a synergy between ET and LCGT/KAGRA was well clear to the ET design team During the ET design study period, supported by EU (FP7- Capacities) from 2008 to 2011, we stimulated all the possible exchange of know-how Thanks to the ET Science Team open structure we invited KAGRA representatives to the ET general meetings Japanese colleagues have collaborated the realization of the ET design study document and had fellowships in EU institutes collaborating to ET (Seen from the EU side) 41st ELiTES meeting

The ELiTES birth But the true initial seed has been planted by prof. Kazuaki Kuroda, in Budapest, during the 2 nd ET meeting, where he proposed to submit a Japan-EU collaboration proposal on LCGT and ET (Seen from the EU side) 51st ELiTES meeting

The ELiTES team The ELiTES project has been approved by EC for 4 years: 03/ /2016 The participating institutes are: Since the August 2012 a new member entered in the project InstituteCountry EGOIT/FR ICRRJ Università di Roma "La Sapienza" IT Friedrich-Schiller Universitaet - Jena D University of GlasgowUK FOMNL MPGD Università degli Studi del Sannio IT InstituteCountry EGOIT/FR ICRRJ Università di Roma "La Sapienza" IT Friedrich-Schiller Universitaet - Jena D University of GlasgowUK FOMNL MPGD Università degli Studi del Sannio IT University of West Scotland UK 61st ELiTES meeting

Aim of ELiTES The ELiTES project is focused on the common aspects of the KAGRA and ET observatories, not “covered” by the advanced detectors Underground Infrastructures, cryogenic facilities, vacuum plants Cryogenics Thermal noise, materials, coatings, Suspensions, cooling systems The aim is to share know-how and to facilitate the realization of both the observatories (obviously with different timelines) through the exchange of staff scientists 1st ELiTES meeting7

ET Strategy ELiTES, in Europe, is considered a component of the Einstein Telescope (ET) strategy See Harald Lück talk about ET 1st ELiTES meeting8

R&D Technical design Site preparation ET Site and infrastructures realisation First detection on advanced interferometers First detector installation Components pre-commissioning and first ET detector commissioning First science data 2029 Hardware production 9 ET Conceptual design ET Observatory Funding Horizon 2020 tools Horizon 2020 I3 tool
