Presentation transcript:

 Objective: Learning to appreciate the amazing privilege it is to be in relationship with the Holy God.  Text: I Peter 2:9-10 “ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people, once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

 A Glimpse of God  Although God is approachable, He is God, and we should be filled with wonder that we can approach him.  Listen to what others describe who experienced the holiness of God.

 Job 42:5-6  “ I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”  Hab. 3:16  The Vision of Isaiah- Isaiah 6:1-5  The Vision of John- Rev. 4:6-8

 What is holiness?  Separation  Set apart like a holy day or holy hill.  Hosea 11:9a  Absolute purity  In God there is no hint of evil.  Sin infects man; it does not infect God

 Unfortunately, we don’t see ourselves as we should.  Rather than comparing ourselves to God, we try to look at all the people around us and we deceive ourselves into thinking that we are not that bad.  Question: Where do we see ourselves on a scale from 1-10 where 1 is equivalent to Hitler and 10 is the equivalent of Paul.

 Try putting God at 10 instead of Paul like Isaiah and see where you wind up.  Those hungering for God never take sin lightly.  Listen to the response of those who encountered the holy God:  Isaiah 6:6-8  How do we do anything less?  When we truly encounter the holy God it will change us also!
