The late Uncle Norm Hunter, who was a respected and prominent Gunung-Willam- Balluk elder, was pivotal in developing the ground work for the creation of the IEC. Womin-jeka (Welcome) “On this land, our mother, we stand, together as one, your footprints are now mixed with those of my ancestral past. The oldest, most ancient spiritual footprints left on terra firma and the land of the Woiworung community and their family clans “ Uncle Norm Hunter “Wonga” Respected elder of the Gunung-Willam-Balluk 19 April 2004

Kangan Institute in 2000, employed 3 Indigenous Staff…. we now employ 35 to 40 Indigenous staff working as teachers, managers, senior educators, tutors, business development officers and trainees. Our traineeship program employs 10 trainees per year and places each trainee into various departments across the Institute. The program has been a tremendous success with an overall retention rate of 85% for trainees for the past 4 years (see photo).
