Community Garden Project ACEL Charter High School

Research Project What is a community garden? How does a community garden work? Why do people have community gardens? What makes a good community garden? What are indicators that it will be successful? What are things to avoid in a community garden? What kinds of community gardens are in Fresno? What do you know about Fresno community gardens? See video on Tom Matott left some books you can look at.

CITE YOUR SOURCES ACEL Charter High School

Research Project At least 2 pages. Can write it out or can make a video on this part of the project. You are making a project!! This means your project can be… –Video –Poster –Diorama –Web Site –Documentary –TV Show –Podcast –Glogster –Think of any project you’ve ever done. Almost any medium will be fine!

YOUR GARDEN Pretend you want to start a community garden in Fresno Where do you want your garden, include a map (Google map) Measure your garden, how big is it? How many plots will you include? What are the size of the plots? What are you going to grow in your garden and why? Will you have areas that are not food, such as a BBQ area or sitting area? Will you have different types of plots for the elderly or handicapped? Will you have trees? Measure and provide a detailed to scale drawing of your garden!

The Math ACEL Charter High School

The Math Geometry is everywhere around you. Where is the Geometry in your garden? There is a spreadsheet for you to make a copy of into your Google Docs account. –You will fill out this spreadsheet and write a complete sentence about where in your garden you will find this kind of Geometry. –Make sure your explanation INCLUDES THE DEFINITION so that I know that you know what it means!! Supplementary Angles – “There are lots of places in my garden where you will find a supplementary angles. There are lots of places where I have right angles and any 2 right angles add up to 90 degrees.” End Points – “At the end of each garden plot edge is the end of the line segment. These represent end points.” Line – “While a line extends infinitely and I do not have infinite lines in my garden, the walking path could be considered a line since in theory you could keep walking straight.”

The Presentation ACEL Charter High School

The Presentation 3 minute SUMMARY of your project. Recommended to have some visuals for your presentation. Quick overview of what your garden looks like Where it is located A few things that make your garden unique Include a few samples of the Geometry of your garden.

What to turn in A page of sources cited (typed). –Google doc preferred. A PROJECT in some format that is organized. The spreadsheet (share Google Spreadsheet with –Make sure it is named according to school naming conventions. –geo_12_garden_Last_first
