ECO-IRU Silk Road Truck Caravan 2010 As a next logical step in the IRU strategy the IRU organised, in public-private partnership with the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), the Silk Road Truck Caravan ECO Member States have participated Page 7 (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2011

ECO-IRU Silk Road Truck Caravan 2010 Results indicated that the Caravan has achieved its set objectives and that the main non-physical barriers, notably at borders, mostly stem from inefficient implementation of the key UN multilateral trade and road transport facilitation instruments. Leaders of the ECO Member States called upon all the relevant parties to implement the regular runs of truck caravans at the Istanbul Meeting in Dec Page 8 (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2011

9 ECO RMT / NELTI-3 in the ECO Region ECO’s objectives that echo IRU’s goals :   Progressive removal of trade barriers and promotion of intra- regional trade;   Gradual integration of the economies of the Member States with the world economy;   Development of transport and communications infrastructure linking the Member States with each other and with the outside world. 10 states, 7 of which are members since Population – over 416 mln. Total GDP - $2,697,037 mln.
