Biography 1835: Mark was born on November 30 in Florida, Missouri 1859: he earns a steamboat pilot's license 1868: Becomes engaged to Olivia Langdon. 1870: Marries Langdon in Elmira, New York. The couple moves to Buffalo, New York 1874: Daughter Clara Langdon Clemens is born. 1876: "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is published. 1880: Daughter Jean is born. 1883: "Life on the Mississippi" published. 1884: "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is Published 1889: "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court” is published.

Biography [continued] 1894: Publishing company goes bankrupt. "Pudd'nhead Wilson" published. 1896: Oldest daughter Susy dies in Hartford. 1901: Yale University awards Clemens an honorary degree. 1903: The Clemens family settles in Florence, Italy. Olivia Clemens becomes sick shortly afterward and dies six months later. 1909: Clemens' youngest daughter, Jean, drowns in the bathtub after what doctors believed was an epileptic seizure. Clemens writes “The Death of Jane” 1910: Clemens dies April 21 of heart disease in his home in Redding, Connecticut

Interesting Facts His childhood dream was to become a steamboat man on the Mississippi River. He out lived all of his children. There was a Hannah-Barbara cartoon based on him. He said that in school he only excelled in spelling. He had many jobs before he was married. He was born when Halley’s Comet happened, and he died when it happened too.
