The Raft of the Medusa  Oil on Canvas  Created by Théodore Géricault in 1818  Depicts a moment from the aftermath of the wreck of the French naval frigate Méduse, which ran aground off the coast of today's Mauritania on July 5, 1816  491 cm × 716 cm  Acquired by the Louvre soon after the artist's early death at the age of 32

FUN FACTS! The Louvre was originally built as a fortress to protect against Viking raids. Napoleon Bonaparte temporarily renamed the museum after himself. (Musée Napoleon) During World War Two nearly all the art pieces were transported from the Louvre to avoid destruction from the Nazi occupation of France. Under the Museum lies the Carrousel du Louvre, a large shopping mall that contains the first Apple Store in France, and a McDonald's restaurant among other shops.

Reflection I enjoyed studying the louvre and learning about its almost 1000 year history. I definitely would like to visit it in the future as well as the rest of Paris. Not only is the art within the Louvre astonishing, but the architecture as well. It’s impressive to see such a historic place become a internationally famous site.
