Scholastic Style  Also known as collegiate or American style  Used in competition in the U.S.A.  In Colleges, High schools, Middle schools, and youth level  Thus millions of participants  Yet can be unfamiliar to most

What it is not…..  ‘Pro wrestling’ as seen on TV  No …. rings  No ….. ropes  No ….. costumes  No..… predetermined winners  No ….. foul language

What it is ……  Real Competition  Results determined by the official and the wrestlers.  Hard work  Fast Action  Beneficial to the character of fans and wrestlers

How can it benefit young athletes?  Learn self-discipline  Control aggression and energy  Benefits of delayed gratification  Physical fitness !  The harder you work, the harder it is to lose. - Unknown

How is it done?  Individual match ups  Yet practice as a team  Two wrestlers of similar weight step on the mat  Both in a standing, ready position  Shake hands and ……………………

Action RR eferee blows the whistle for the start of the 1 st period BB oth wrestlers seek to gain control of the other TT wo points are scored when one wrestler ‘takes down’ the other to the mat CC ontinues until one wrestler pins the other to the mat HH olding the upper back on the mat AA pin ends the match OO r the time runs out for the 1 st period TT hus continuing ………..

To the 2 nd Period WW restling can continue for 1 or 2 more time periods of action if no pin PP oints are scored by gaining control of the other (2 points) EE scaping control (1 point) AA lmost pinning the other (2 or 3) VV iolations earn points to the other wrestler WW restler with the most points at the end -- ---wins II f a tie ? … then……  …. Overtime !!!!

How can I view and support it? AAttend nearby matches …  …..usually held on Saturdays SS cholastic & Collegiate seasons in the winter MM any open competitions in the spring and summer CC an be viewed on public TV EE ncourage students to try it
