Developments in Mars Exploration Since October 2012 MEPAG Meeting  Ongoing: MSL Surface Operations  Status report from R. Gibbs  Ongoing: Response to President’s FY13 budget release  Inadequate funding for Decadal Survey’s recommendations  Congressional support expressed for restoring some of the cut  December 2012: Mars 2020 Rover mission announced by John Grunsfeld at AGU  December 2012: J. Green becomes acting MEP Director following D. McCuistion’s resignation  Thanks Doug for all your years of good service to MEP!  January 2013: 2020 Mars Rover Science Definition Team is chartered and begins work  Update on SDT activities later this meeting  February 27: MEPAG Meeting!  Converted the face-to-face meeting in DC to this web meeting in light of delayed budget decisions & travel restrictions

Goals for Feb. 27 MEPAG Meeting 1. Understand the latest budget implications for the Planetary Program, including Mars 2. Bring the community up to date on the Science Mission Directorate’s Mars strategic planning  SMD budget planning for continuing missions and R&A  2020 Science Definition Team (SDT) status and schedule  SMD plans once the SDT report is delivered (mid-summer)  Current Human Exploration (HEOMD) plans 3. Hear reports from recent community workshops 4. Capture the community’s reaction to all of the above for the NAC-Planetary Science Subcommittee 5. Discuss how to respond to any analysis requests  There may be both near-term and longer-term actions that MEPAG should take
