What’s New in HIPE 10.0 (SPIRE FTS)
Presentation transcript:

New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 PACS Page 1 What’s New in HIPE 9.1 ( SPIRE FTS) Nanyao Lu NHSC/IPAC (on behalf of the SPIRE ICC)

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 2 New & Improvements in HIPE 9.1 (over HIPE 8) Better model for the telescope emission. –Improved continuum fluxes for faint sources. Better calibration products for the low-resolution (LR) mode. –Better continuum accuracy. New or improved user scripts for data processing/analysis: –Estimating spectral noise. –Convolving a higher resolution spectrum to the resolution of SPIRE FTS. –Improved background-subtraction script allows for selecting and smoothing off-axis detectors. –Improved line fitting script. Faster data processing using multi-threading. NOTE: If your data downloaded from the archive is processed with HIPE 8, you can easily reprocess your observation in HIPE 9.1 to benefit from the latest calibration.

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 3 Updated Telescope Model A new observational day dependent multiplicative correction factor to account for variation in the emissivity of the primary mirror. This improves the continuum flux accuracy from 1-3 Jy in HIPE 8 to ~ 0.5 Jy in HIPE 9.1.

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 4 Improved Low-resolution Data Processing Low-resolution observations are now processed using calibration products based only on Low resolution input data. This leads to a much improved spectral shape for Low resolution observations. HIPE 9 HIPE 8 Point-source flux cal. Extended-source flux cal.

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 5 New Script: Quick Spectral Noise Analysis Random noise HSPOT predicted noise RMS noise calculated by this script (OD742) This shows that there is some systematic noise in OD742, but the overall noise is still consistent with the HSPOT expectation.

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 6 Spectral Noise Analysis: Another Example Random noise RMS noise calculated by this script HSPOT predicted noise This shows that there is not much systematic noise in OD836 and the overall noise is significantly better than the HSPOT prediction.

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 7 Improved Script: Background Subtraction Option for interactively selecting off-axis, co-aligned detectors. Now does Gaussian smoothing to the spectra of the selected off-axis detectors. For Gaussian smooth; in units of spectral channels Select off-axis detectors at Level 1 Final Level-2 spectrum Black: Pipeline spectrum (HIPE 8). Blue: Off-axis subtracted, no smoothing. Green: Off-axis subtraction, with Gaussian smoothing.

PACS New SPIRE features in HIPE 9.1 NHSC; Nov 28, 2012 Page 8 What’s New to Come in HIPE 10? (Scheduled for release by the end of 2012, more likely in Jan 2013) –Better point-source flux calibration with improved beam parameters from new Uranus observations. –Improved mapping flux calibration and noise characteristics based on jiggle-position dependent dark observations. –A proto-type tool to do aperture flux correction for semi-extended sources. –…
