The Power of Parentheses!

Ms. Owens visited New York City last year and took a taxi to see a Broadway show. The taxi charged a $2 pick up fee and $3 per mile. It was 12 miles from the hotel to the theater. Write a numerical expression that would help to answer, then evaluate.
