Text #ICANN49 Recent Developments JIG was chartered to develop recommendations on three IDN-related issues: (1) Single Character IDNs; (2) IDN Variants; (3) Universal Acceptance of IDNs – JIG produced Reports on all 3 issues ICANN has now launched an IDN Variant Project and will launch a Universal Acceptance Project (for All TLDs) in Singapore Many of the JIG’s recommendations have now been either incorporated into, or are more appropriately part of, broader ICANN community work

Text #ICANN49 Next Steps JIG can be formally closed JIG recommends that each SO (ccNSO & GNSO) monitor developments for possible future policy work Critical that there is broad ICANN community participation, e.g.: - For IDN Variants: IDN Variant Label Generation Rules (LGR) Panels in various languages - For Universal Acceptance: help define appropriate facilitative role for ICANN to collaborate with industry & technical community
