MUSIC AND CLOTHES As the time passes, music preferences have changed. Also clothes styles, which are affected by the specific type of music that one listens to, have changed. As we realise, someone’s style can be influenced by the music he/she likes.

TYPES OF MUSIC THAT CAN AFFECT CLOTHES Punk Metal Hip-Hop/Rap Gothic EMO Country/Traditional music

PUNK Punk fashion is the clothing, hairstyles, cosmetics, jewellery and body modifications of the punk subculture. Punk fashion varies widely, ranging from Vivienne Westwood designs to styles modeled on bands like The Exploited to the dressed-down look of North American hardcore.

The distinct social dress of other subcultures and art movements, including: glam rock, skinheads, rude boys, Greasers modshave influenced punk fashion. Punk fashion has likewise influenced the styles of these groups, as well as those of popular culture. Many punks use clothing as a way of making a statement.

METAL METAL The clothing associated with heavy metal has its roots in the biker, rocker, and leather subcultures. Heavy metal fashion includes elements such as leather jackets; hi(gh)-top basketball shoes (more common with old school thrash metalheads); blue or black jeans, camouflage pants, shirts, jackets or shorts, and denim jackets or kutte vests, often adorned with badges, pins and patches. As with the bikers, there is a fascination with Germanic imagery, such as the Iron Cross..

HIP-HOP/RAP During the 1980s, hip-hop icons wore clothing items such as brightly colored name- brand tracksuits, sheepskin and leather bomber jackets,Clarks shoes, Britishers a.k. a. British Walkers and sneakers (usually Pro-Keds, Puma, Converse's Chuck Taylor All- stars, and Adidas Superstars often with "phat" or oversized shoelaces). Popular accessories included large eyeglasses (Cazals), Kangol bucket hats, nameplates, name belts and multiple rings.

GOTHIC GOTHIC Gothic fashion is a clothing style marked by conspicuously dark, mysterious, antiquated and homogenous features. It is worn by members of the Goth subculture. A dark, sometimes morbid fashion and style of dress, typical gothic fashion includes a pale complexion with colored black hair, black lips and black clothes. Both male and female goths wear dark eyeliner and dark fingernail polish. Styles are often borrowed from the punk fashion, Victorians and Elizabethans. Goth fashion is sometimes confused with heavy metal fashion and emo fashion.

EMO Emos dress like gothic, but they cover their faces with their hair.

FOLK A folk costume expresses an identity through costume, which is usually associated with a geographic area or a period of time in history. It can also indicate social, marital and/or religious status. Such costumes often come in two forms: one for everyday occasions, the other for festivals and formal wear.
