~Day F~ December 8, 2014 English Science Social Studies locker Exploratory LUNCH Exploratory Math

ACTIVATOR (December 8, 2014) : (1)Take out your H.W & notebook. (2) In notebook, answer this: Divide using the division algorithm: 392,196 ÷ 87.

SWBAT understand that the standard algorithm of division is simply a tally system arranged in place value columns, and use this knowledge to compute long division problems with and without remainders. 6.NS.B2 and 6.NS.B3 December 8, 2014 Day F

Exercise 1-6 (pg. 52 - 53):  Review problems 1-4 from homework  Complete problems 5-6 with your partner

How Do You Feel? topic. December 8, 2014 Day F

Many answers. Sample response: The division algorithm shows successive estimates of the quotient organized by place value, or the division algorithm breaks one large division problem into several smaller ones organized by place value. Closing from lesson 13: Explain in your own words how the division algorithm works.

Example 1 page 55 Estimate the quotient.

Example 2 974 ones and 835 thousandths divided by 12 ones and 45 hundredths Notice they don’t have the same units, so lets rewrite them so they do. 974.835 ÷ 12.450 or 978,835 thousandths divided by 12,450 thousandths.

Ex. 2 continued

Example 3 pg. 56 A plane travels 3,625.26 miles in 6.9 hours. What is the plane’s unit rate? We can rewrite this as 362,526 hundredths divided by 690 hundredths, so 362,526 ÷ 690

How Do You Feel? topic. December 8, 2014 Day F

Classwork Exercises 1-7 pgs. 56-58. Work with your partner.

Closing Describe the steps that you use to change division questions with decimals to a division question with whole numbers.

Exit Ticket: Lisa purchased almonds for $3.50 per pound. She spent a total of $14.70. How many pounds of almonds did she purchase?

Problem Set: Page 54 and 59 December 8, 2014 Day F

Accommodations  Read or reread presentation or activity directions, as needed or after prompting  Use examples to model and act as a guide for emerging learners December 8, 2014 Day F
