2 EoE Chronic eosinophilic (white blood cell) infiltration of the esophagus Common symptoms: vomiting, chest pain, difficulty in swallowing, food impaction, failure to thrive 2008-2011 period prevalence: 56.7/100,000 persons ~152,152 cases in the U.S. Treatment: Steroid, Diet (elimination or restriction), Monoclonal Antibodies, PPI

5 mHealth for Chronic Dz Management Equip patients and/or families to capture real time data related to symptoms and quality of life indicators. EoE episodes linked to dietary triggers, thus we would like to capture meals, snacks and context via food diary Objective and subjective data documented between clinical encounters (vs. “usual” patient recall) –Patient-provider communication enhancement –Individual patient care will be improved Link data to electronic health record (EHR) –Immediate impact: enhanced patient surveillance –Long term plan: add mHealth intervention components over time –Long term plan: multi-site collaboration (e.g., UNC-CH, Cincinnati)
