Rounding  Rounding is the process of changing some digits to zeros in order to increase or decrease the value of a number.  It seems complicated but I promise it is not.

 Example :  Round 5,784 to the nearest ten.  Step 1: Underline the digit that is in the tens place, in this case 8.  5,784

 Step 2: Find out the value of the digit 8 in. 5,784  As the digit 8 is in the tens place, it’s value is 80.

 Step 3: Draw a number line and locate the next ten. 5,780 5,790

 Step 4: Observe the digit that is in the right side of the digit you are rounding. 5, 7 8 4

 If the digit is :  5,6,7,8 or 9 the number goes up to the next ten. In this case to 5,790

 If the digit is :  4,3,2,or 1 the number remains in the same ten. In this case 5,780. 

 In this case as the digit 4 is the digit to the right side of the digit you are rounding. 5,784  The number in the tens place remains the same. 5,780
