3 New Jersey Duke of York gives some of land to Lord John Berkeley and Sir George Carteret Made $ by charging settlers rent Freedom of religion, all white men had a vote No natural harbor, struggled, became royal colony

4 Pennsylvania William Penn was owed $ by the King, instead gives him piece of land as big as England Penn was a Quaker- believed people were equal, inner light, pacifists, church services unnecessary, treat NA’s fairly Philadelphia founded, Penn advertises for settlers

5 Delaware Originally part of NJ, then given to Penn cause didn’t have coastline People living there didn’t want to be part of Penn, broke away and became one colony
