3 February 2010 Copyright © 2009 Mississippi Department of Education 3 Accommodations Manual Major Change Accommodations 24 & 25 relate to administering the test over several sessions and/or days; use of these accommodations must be approved by the Office of Student Assessment prior to their use on statewide assessments. The entire assessment must be completed within the testing window, and the accommodation must be supported by the IEP. Any extension that exceeds or goes beyond the day the test administration is scheduled must be pre-arranged, the procedure documented, and the plans on file with the DTC. If the student is testing over several days, he/she is not allowed to change responses to questions answered during the previous testing sessions or preview questions that will be administered in a future session.

4 Accommodations Manual Major Change 51: Read the test directions (but not the test items) to individual students or the group – without repeating or paraphrasing. 52: Read the test directions (but not the test items) to individual students or the group – repeating the directions if needed, but not paraphrasing. 53: Read the test directions (but not the test items) to individual students or the group – repeating and/or paraphrasing the directions if needed. Paraphrasing is re-stating the text. Paraphrasing does not include providing definitions or detailed explanations. Only directions may be paraphrased. (This accommodation is non-allowable for the reading sections of the following state assessments: MCT2 – Reading and English II Multiple Choice – Vocabulary/Reading.) 56: DELETED See new accommodation 58. Test administrators for a presentation accommodation are not allowed to paraphrase and are not allowed to use bridging techniques. 57: DELETED Use a calculator on a mathematics assessment at grades 3 through 6 is no longer allowed. 8 Accommodations #48 Manual: Allowable and Non-allowable Memory aids, fact sheets, and resource sheets are available ONLY to students with an IEP ruling. If the memory aids, fact charts, or resource sheets you desire to use **do not appear** in the Accommodations #48 Manual, you **must** complete the Accommodation Request Form, which is available at http://www.mde.k12.ms.us/ACAD/osa/specpop.htmlhttp://www.mde.k12.ms.us/ACAD/osa/specpop.html Material must be submitted to the Office of Student Assessment (OSA) no later than four weeks prior to the test administration. 9 February 2010 Copyright © 2009 Mississippi Department of Education 9 Large Print Test Booklets Before a district can order a Large Print test booklet for a student, that student must have an IEP or 504 Plan. As stipulated in the Testing Students with Disabilities Regulations (page 13), “Mississippi Code 37-16-9 ensures that appropriate testing accommodations are provided for eligible students. Test accommodations are considered changes in testing procedures that provide students with disabilities under IDEA or under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and students with a temporary physical disability an equal opportunity to participate in testing situations and to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities.”
