JASMIN December Counter Experiments (T-972/994) Toshiya SANAMI on behalf of JASMIN Counter team JASMIN Counter team H.Arakawa, M.Hagiawara, Y.Iwamoto, T.Kajimoto, H.S.Lee, K.Saito, T.Sanami, N.Shigyo

Scope of JASMIN collaboration JASMIN : Japanese American Study of Muon Interaction and Neutron detection Experimental data for – Neutron Generations by high energy proton (120GeV) Interaction with matter – Muon Interaction with nucleus Radiation safety issue (shielding and activation), Verification of predictions by simulations  Improvement of accelerator design All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab2

Approach to the data Foil activation, chemical separation Bonner sphere, NE213 scintillator, Dosimeter Activation team (Dec. 13’s talk) – Pbar, NuMI and Mtest : Induced activity in concrete, iron, air and water Counter team (Today’s talk) – NuMI : Dosimeter for muon induced radiation – Pbar : Bonner sphere for neutron spectrum – Mtest : Neutron spectrum and yield All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab3

Experiment at pbar All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab6 Neutron spectrum through thick shield using Bonner spheres Experimental data are consistent with activation, however differ from calculations Shielding data for lateral direction Bonner sphere with current readout

Experiment at FTBF All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab7 Target&BM1,2 5” NE213 @ 30, 90 120GeV proton beam Neutron source term data 120 GeV proton on target Neutron energy spectrum by TOF

Experiment at FTBF All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab9 Preliminary

Experiment at FTBF All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab10 30 deg. 90 deg. Dec.2010 : more target, angles with removing room scattering effects, for systematic comparison Energy [MeV] DDX [mb/MeV/sr]

Summary All experimenter’s meeting at Fermilab11 Secondary particles from 120 GeV proton have been measured from radiation safety point of view. At NuMI, muon and secondary particle data are in good agreement with simulation At pbar, neutron spectrum has systematic difference between experimental and simulations To explore the reason, neutron source term have been measured at FTBF, systematically. Thanks to Fermilab T972/T993/T994 members, N.Mokhov, A.Leveling, D. Boehnlein, K.Vazili MCC / pbar / NuMI / Rad. safety stuffs FTBF members, A.Soha, E.Ramberg, R.Coleman, D.Jensen
