TODALSIGS T: Title – indentifies the information displayed on the map O: Orientation – compass rose D: Date – identifies when the map was published A: Author – identifies who made the map L: Legend – identifies symbols on the map S: Scale – determines the distance between points on the map I: Index – indicates latitude and longitude of a specific point G: Grid – a pattern of regular spaced horizontal and vertical lines S: Source – identifies where information came from

Grid System Lines of Latitude or Parallel lines – measure the distance North to South but circle the earth in the West to East direction Equator – is measured at 0 degrees latitude Lines of Longitude or Meridian Lines – measure the distance West to East but circle the earth in the North to South direction Prime Meridian – is measured at 0 degrees longitude Coordinate – intersecting latitude and longitude lines –********Always coordinate in Latitude, Longitude

Elevation The height above sea level. It tells geographers how high the topography is from sea level or the lowest ground.

Absolute vs. Relative Location Absolute Location – precise point on earth where latitude line crosses longitude line –EX: I live at 34°N, 45°W Relative Location – identifying a place in relation to another place –I live about 2 miles North of Houston

United States Time Zones Pacific (CA – 2 hrs earlier than TX) Mountain (CO – 1 hr earlier than TX) Central (TX) Eastern – (NY – 1 hr later than TX)

Exit Ticket 1.550 Dulles Avenue, Sugar Land, TX 77478 2.Midwest 3.Give an example of Relative Location. 4.List the 3 types of regions 5.Which element does language belong with? 6.What problem does recycling solve?
