The Finished Work Of Jesus Christ 1-22-12

We talked last week about the events surrounding the words; “It is Finished”. 1. Darkness 2. “My God My God why have You forsaken me”? 3. “It is finished!” 4. The veil of the temple is torn from top to bottom

5. Earthquake so intense that rocks split. 6. Graves are opened 7. Saints who are asleep are raised and appear to many. Today I want to focus on 6,7 We have an “image” problem We have a “birth” problem That needs to be finished

Gen 1:27) So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. SIN ENTERED Gen 3:7) Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 

8) And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. RESULT Gen 5:3) And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

What does being born in the image of Adam produce? Gen 5:5) So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. Genesis 5:8) So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died. We have an image problem that needs to be changed!

Rom 5:12) Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned– 13) (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

15) For by the one man’s offense many died, 16) For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, 17) For by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, 18) Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, 19) For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners,

AND IF THIS WASN'T BAD ENOUGH THE LAW CAME IN SO THAT SIN WOULD INCREASE EVEN MORE! 20) Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. 21) sin reigned in death, We were born into death, we didn't have to do anything, just be born. Now that we, as a race, are in this horrible place of death, what can we do to get out? Removing the old image!!!!

1Cor 15:20) But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21) For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. Ever wonder what First fruits mean? Exodus 34:22 “And you shall observe the Feast of Weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end.

בִּכּוּר bikkuwr (bik-koor') n-m. 1. the first-fruits of the crop (or harvest) 1Cor 15:22) For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23) But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ – the faithful witness, the firstborn from among the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth. To the one who loves us and has set us free from our sins at the cost of his own blood

6) and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. For it is written: Galatians 3:21) For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.

22) But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Next week: More image problems
