2.  The San José State University Accessible Education Center (AEC) Division of Student Affairs, is a comprehensive center providing students with accommodations and services.  The Center works closely with faculty, staff, programs and departments to deliver services and promote access for students with disabilities in the classroom and throughout the campus. 5.  The Center for Accessible Technology (CAT) staff provides assistive technology training and alternative media to students with disabilities.  Students referred for training learn to utilize assistive technology and subsequently mainstream to computer labs throughout the campus where the same adaptations are provided, ensuring equal access. 6.  Possible alternative media formats include Braille, e-text (electronic text), Mp3, and large print.  Alternative format produced for curriculum requirements only and are determined by individual student need and the ability to provide the curriculum material in the desired format.  The CAT is one of the largest adaptive computing centers in the country.  The Center utilizes the latest adaptive hardware and software with approximately thirty accessible stations and trained staff. 8.  Facilitates communication in the classroom, advisement meetings, during campus events or anytime such an accommodation is curriculum related.  The Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services Program provides professional Educational Sign Language Interpreting and Educational Real-Time Captioning services.  Note-taking services and an Assistive Listening Device (ALD) Loaner Program are also available.  Matriculated students are assisted with priority registration so service accommodations can be arranged. 19. PROVIDING COURSE ACCOMMODATIONS Most accommodations are simple to provide, such as extended time on exams and/or assignments, enlarged print, quiet/private rooms. Some accommodations require assistance from others to provide, such as alternative media (Braille, MP3, etc.), web access, class assistant, etc. Instructors should partner with the institutional resources for assistance such as the Accessible Education Center.

20. The Accommodations Review Board (ARB) was established in 1995 by President Robert Caret with Presidential Directive (PD) 95-04. PD 95-04 has been superseded by PD 97-03. The ARB was formed to act as a dispute resolution board that reviewed conflicts between students and faculty regarding accommodations prescribed by the AEC. The ARB reports directly to the Provost.
