Sin Evil Wickedness Tolerance Religious Error etc. “Judge Not!”

“judge” “to separate, select, choose”; hence “to determine,” and so “to judge, pronounce judgment” (Vine) “to distinguish, i.e. decide (mentally or judicially” (Strong) A determination based upon an observation.

If Matthew 7:1 means we can’t make any judgments, then how can we… determine that our brother has a speck in his eye (v. 5)? determine who are dogs and swine, and what is holy and a pearl (v. 6)? determine who is a false prophet (vs. 15-16)? We cannot violate verse one by observing the rest of the chapter!

If Matthew 7:1 means we can’t make any judgments, then how can we… test all things (1 Thess. 5:21-22)? restore a brother overtaken in a trespass (Gal. 6:1)? correct those who are in opposition (2 Tim. 2:24-26)? Obviously, the Lord allows and even expects us to make judgments.

What Did Jesus Mean? “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” Matthew 7:1-2

“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” John 7:24

What Is A Righteous Judgment? A Judgment That Is Right A Judgment That Is Fair A Judgment That We Have the Right To Make
