Communion Authentic Christianity – p.1 1 John 1

Revelation 2:2-3 (NIV) I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.

Revelation 2:2-3 (NIV) You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.

The deceivers started teaching that Jesus was not God incarnate. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Matthew 27:46 (NIV)

The deceivers also taught that once you believed in Christ sin was no longer an issue. For the deceivers it was all a matter of enlightenment.

1 John 1:1-4 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

1 John 1:1-4 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us.

1 John 1:1-4 And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? Jesus is indeed eternal; “that which was from the beginning” (v.1)

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? Jesus is indeed Logos; the “Word of life” (v.1)

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2).

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? “All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being” (John 1:3).

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God?

Jesus is indeed the one from sent from God. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. (v.2)

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? Jesus is indeed the one from sent from God. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. (v.2)

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? Jesus is indeed the center of our fellowship. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. (v.3)

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? The Greek work translated fellowship is koinonia. Koinonia is a relationship of intimacy with others as we enter into a relationship of intimacy with God. “make our joy complete” (v.4).

The Question: Is Jesus really the Son of God? Authentic Christianity is communion: fellowship with God and others which results in the pure and simple delight in being alive!

The Answer: 1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

Question: Where can I get the special revelation to learn the secrets about God? God reveals Himself to everyone, He doesn’t hide in the shadows.

The Answer: 1 John 1:6-10 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.

The Answer: 1 John 1:6-10 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

The Answer: 1 John 1:6-10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

The Answer: 1 John 1:6-10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

Question: Can I still sin? If we really have the light it will show up in how we live our lives. Sin is always a barrier to communion with God. ( Authentic Christianity is living it out where it can be seen.

Bottom Line: We experience authentic Christianity when our desire for spiritual communion drives us to be obedient to God’s commands in every area of our lives.
