Joseph McDowell

Real World Problem Today Andy went to ORR AUTO to check the mileage on his Improved 1997 Jeep Wrangler. They told him he gets 17 miles to the gallon. How many miles will he go on 5 gallons of gas?

The Equation My equation is Y= 17x F(x) = 17x X= the number of gallons of gas Y= the number of miles traveled

Independent and Dependent The independent variable is my x which is the number of gallons of gas. The dependent variable is my y which is the mileage he gets. We know that y is dependent on x. Then we know the total mileage depends on the number of gallons.

Table of Values X17XY(X,Y) 117(1)17(1,17) 217(2)34(2,34) 317(3)51(3,52) 417(4)68(4,68) 517(5)85(5,81)

Domain and Range Domain is the X values Range is the Y values My domain is 1,2,3,4,5 My range is 17, 34, 51, 68, 85

Is it Discrete or Continues Since my data contains a line and is not just points its continues. My graph can have multiple points it can be 1.5 or any number.

Is it a function? My X value doesn’t over lap so it’s a function.

Gas Graph

SOOOO This all depends on how much gas you have in the tank of the jeep.
