2 Whole numbers are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, … Integers include all the whole numbers and also their negative versions: …, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, … All whole numbers are integers but there are some integers that are not whole numbers. Rational numbers can have the form where p and q are integers and q is not 0. All integers are rational numbers, but there are some rational numbers that are not integers.

4 To convert integers into rational numbers, put them over a denominator of 1. Examples: To convert percents into rational numbers, put them over a denominator of 100. Examples:

5 To convert mixed numbers into rational numbers, multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to get the new numerator. Keep the denominator. Example:

6 To convert decimals into rational numbers, put the decimal part as the numerator and put the place value of the last digit as a denominator. Examples: If there was a whole number part of the decimal, now treat it like a mixed number. Example:
