Most think that literacy has an essence that can be captured, but (anthropological studies are in Goody(1968), states that literacy has neither a static or universal essence. How does this article relate to the purposes and projects in our class and how can we compete with them?  Its stating everything we have learned about literacy such as, the ability to read and write; also how people teach, learn and understand it because of how they were brought up and the lack of knowledge they have. Their history and their religious beliefs, how they pass one custom from generation to generation, their power as whole.  In a classroom we are taught the basics and basically everything we must know to continue but there is also media literacy where we learn from the internet or other sightings like stop signs. We must have the ability to learn and want to learn we must look at it from economic conditions as well as social content as a society.
