1. Entrance Ticket Mathematically proficient students… Explain to themselves the meaning of a problem Look for entry points to its solution. Analyze givens, constraints, relationships, and goals. Plan a solution pathway rather than simply jumping into a solution attempt. They monitor and evaluate their progress and change course if necessary. Explain correspondences between equations, verbal descriptions, tables, and graphs or draw diagrams of important features and relationships, graph data, and search for regularity or trends. Use concrete objects or pictures to help conceptualize and solve a problem. Check their answers to problems using a different method, and they continually ask themselves, "Does this make sense?" Which of these strategies did you use when completing your summer homework? Be sure to explain a specific instance.

Learning Tasks: Part 1 Discuss each problem with your pair with the following guidelines… Compare justifications of answers (answers are not nearly as important) Make sure you both can answer the questions, “How do you know” and “Why” to each problem. Be ready to share your answers/findings/justifications.

4. Learning Tasks: Part 2 In your group… Discuss each problem. Arrive at a presentable and agreed upon solution (does not have to be correct) Write a mathematical solution on a separate sheet of paper (one on the front and one on back) Write a written reflection similar to Part 0: Section II for each problem. Submit it to Mr. Patel when you’re done.
