2 Focus Questions Outline the roles of parents and carers (3 marks) Discuss how the factors affecting the roles of parents and carers can impact on ONE of the following: -Satisfying the specific needs of the dependant -Building a positive relationship with the dependant -Promoting the wellbeing of the dependant (8 marks) Activity 1a

3 1 Minute Madness Brainstorm everything you know about the method of attempting an examination. Things to think about: -Which sections do I attempt first? -How much time do I spend on each question? -What is involved in planning a response? -What do I do if I draw a blank? -How do I structure an extended response? Share responses with the group Activity 1b

5 Focus Question 1 Outline the roles of parents and carers 1. Circle the Board of Studies term (key word) 2. Underline the syllabus content 3. Highlight any important link words Activity 2a

6 -What is the key word asking me to do? -Is the syllabus content from the SLT or SLA? -Write the syllabus points to be covered -Rewrite the question in your own words -Write your response using PEEL as a guide Planning the response Activity 2b

7 Structuring a Response – PEEL  Point State your point, argument, position, make a proposition  Explain/Elaborate Give details about the point you are making. Show the effects of the point, apply your knowledge to enhance the response  Example ALWAYS use 1-2 examples to show that you can apply your knowledge. They need to be relevant and reinforce your point  Link Refer back to the question or show the outcome of your argument on the question, make reference to the impact on wellbeing

11 Discuss Scaffold Factors affecting the roles Explanation of impact (on satisfying specific needs of the dependant) (Step 1 and 2) Examples of factors and their impact (Step 3) Characteristics of the dependant (age, skills, special needs) Education – Impact upon their ability to access information about their health Employment – Impact upon their eligibility and ability to work and earn money e.g Age – older individuals may be better able to access education and be more informed abut their health resulting in? e.g Skills – A dependant with very few skills and little experience may find it difficult to find employment and earn an income leading to? Influences on parents and carers (personal, social) Safety and Security – Sense of identity – e.g Religion/spirituality - e.g Gender expectations - Styles of parenting and caring Rights and responsibilities Link: back to the question and possibly make reference to wellbeing Activity 5
