2 Past SG13 activity on L1 VPNs  2 approved L1 VPN Recommendations –Y.1312 (L1 VPN Generic Requirements and Architecture elements) : approved in Sept 03 –Y.1313 (L1 VPN service and network architectures) : approved in May 04  L1 VPN Survey – generated in 2004 but received no significant feedback –Evaluation of community interest, input for assessment of priorities and direction of future work –To be filled by interested parties, summary of collected feedback (via ITU-T TSB) was planned for public distribution –Inadequate level of distribution ? Too early for the market ? Confidential information ?  L1 VPN framework Internet draft – 00 generated in March 2004 –Objective : improve understanding of ITU work inside IETF and for further cooperation –Co-authored by individual people who have all participated into the ITU L1 VPN work –Content basically summarized the above two Recommendations  Future SG13 activity on L1 VPNs –Specific work items still to be finalised (NGN project takes most of current efforts) –Cooperation with other standard bodies is essential at this point (solutions) –Cooperation with IETF : SG13 is pleased of the L1 VPN WG creation, and is waiting now for feedback on suitability of IETF protocols for L1 VPN service delivery –Some ASON-related developments are ongoing inside ITU-T SG15 –Re-issue of the L1 VPN Survey ?

3 Liaison sent from last SG13 May 2005 meeting (to IETF Routing Area/CCAMP WG)  SG 13 would like to thank the IETF CCAMP WG for your liaison replies in the area of L1VPNs, informing us about your recent progress on this subject, as well as the new mailing list creation.  Thank you for your review of the ITU-T documents on service level requirements and framework for L1VPNs, now published as Y.1312 (Layer 1 Virtual Private Network Generic Requirements and Architecture Elements) and Y.1313 (Layer 1 Virtual Private Network service and network architectures).  We are aware that these service level requirements and framework have been summarized in the Internet-Draft draft-takeda-l1vpn-framework, and that work is ongoing in the IETF community to assess the suitability of existing IETF protocols to meet the requirements within the context of the framework. We appreciate and would definitely like to continue our collaboration with the IETF on this subject so that, following the analysis of the suitability of the existing IETF protocols for L1VPN service delivery, any necessary protocol extensions are appropriately accomplished within the IETF.  Please continue to keep us informed about your progress in the area of L1VPNs.  Our next meeting is planned for August 25 – September 9 2005 in Geneva.
