Spiral Notebook needed (or notebook paper)

Theoretical Probability The theoretical probability of an event is the ratio of the number of the favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. TheoreticalProbability P(event) = You rolled a fair number cube that is labeled 1 through 6, what is the theoretical probability of rolling an even number?

Experimental Probability The experimental probability of an event is the ratio of the number of times the favorable outcomes occurred to the number of trials in the experiment. Experimental Probability P(event) = You rolled a fair number cube that is labeled 1 through 6, 50 times and recorded the results in the table. What is the experimental probability of rolling an even number? NumberFrequency 18 211 36 48 510 67

Goldilocks When Goldilocks visits the home of the Three Bears, she can choose to eat from Papa Bear’s bowl, Mama Bear’s bowl, or Baby Bear’s bowl. She can also choose to eat her porridge plain or with brown sugar on top. Finally, she can choose to top her porridge with apples or blueberries. Draw a tree diagram to plan out how many different ways Goldilocks can eat the porridge.

Goldilocks

Goldilocks Possible Outcomes There are 12 possible ways she can have her porridge.

Over the River and Through the Woods The three bears are one mile west of their home. They have 4 routes they can take to get home – by the mountain, over a river, through the woods, or next to a field of flowers. Once they arrive at home, they can enter through the side door or the back door. Draw a tree diagram to see how many different ways the three bears can travel to catch Goldilocks eating their porridge.

Over the River and Through the Woods

Over the River and Through the Woods Possible Outcomes There are 8 possible routes.

Example 3: Make a list of all the possible outcomes when spinning the spinners below. Determine how many possible outcomes altogether.

Example 4: Matthew rolls a die and flips a coin. What are all the possible outcomes? How many possible outcomes are there altogether?

Example 5: Benny’s Bagel Shop has plain, raisin, and sesame bagels. They have cream cheese, butter, and jam toppings. How many choices of a bagel with one topping could you order?

Example 6: At the Hi-Top Ski Resort, there are three chair lifts to the top of the mountain. There are six ski trails to the bottom of the mountain. How many possible choices of lifts and trails do the skiers have?
