3 The Imitation of an Action made of, and dependent on : o Law of Probability - cause and effect  event has occurred before  actions have beginning, middle, and end o Law of Necessity - everything has a purpose

4 Poetry and History, in Aristotle's View History o shows what has happened o expresses the particular Poetry o shows what the future holds o good poetry brings moral education  reflects nature, which is essentially good  uses pity and fear to prevent repetition of action
