3 National Immunization Survey (NIS) Immunization Coverage for Kansas and the U.S. Rates for 4:3:1:3:3:1** Series for Children 19-35 Months Old **4 doses of DTP, 3 doses of polio, 1 dose of measles, 3 doses of HiB, 3 doses of HepB, 1 dose varicella * 2009 shortage of HIB likely affects this rate (Side Courtesy of Kansas Health Institute)

4 KIP Activity Since 2003  Encouraged vaccination of children in their medical home  Implemented “Immunize Win a Prize” program  Implemented WIC-Immunization linkage project  Collaborated with KAAP to implement MOBI project  Implemented KSWebIZ To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices. 5 VFC Program  Increase in number of VFC providers  2003 = 252 providers  2009 = 366 providers  Increase in private sector vaccine administration To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices. Bee Wise Immunize

6 Immunize Win a Prize  Funding from the Children’s Cabinet through Medicaid  Medicaid Immunization Rates have increased since 2003  Health Connect Kansas = 56% to 78% in 2010  Healthwave-19 = 48% to 75% in 2010  Healthwave 21 = 49% to 81% in 2010  Project funding has been eliminated from the state budget.  Program will be discontinued after 2011 without new funding. 7 WIC-Immunization Linkage  Began with one pilot project in Sedgwick Co.  Immunization rates increased by 23%  Increased # projects in 2005 (CDC Grant).  Four largest WIC counties  SGF appropriation in 2008 expanded project to a total of 8 counties.  SGF funding has been cut for Aid to Local activity for SFY 2010, 2011 and 2012. 8 MOBI Project  Peer to Peer education regarding immunization best practices  Partnership between physicians and local health departments to provide immunization expertise to immunization providers  Goals:  Increase the number of children immunized in their medical home  Improve immunization service delivery To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices. 9 KSWebIZ  Decision was made by KDHE to procure a new web-based system in 2001  KSWebIZ was implemented at the first provider site in August 2005  Significant progress has been made in the five years since that time To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices. 10 Immunize Kansas Kids Project  A group of strategic immunization Partners was convened in 2006 to improve the childhood immunization rate in Kansas.  Identified strategies to increase immunizations among the preschool population.  Funded the Kansas Health Institute studies of immunization practices and beliefs in Kansas.
