2. WW2 Facts The war lasted from 1939 untill1945. 50 million people lost there lives and hundreds of millions more were injured. World War Two in Europe began on 3rd September 1939, after Germany made an unprovoked attack on Poland. Britain plus France declared war on Germany after Hitler had refused to abort his invasion of Poland. The Prime Minister of Britain at the time was Neville Chamberlain.

3. Neville Chamberlain Chamberlain left Munich believing that by appeasing Hitler he had assured 'peace for our time'. However, in March 1939 Hitler annexed the Czech lands of Bohemia and Moravia, with Slovakia becoming a puppet state of Germany. Five months later in September 1939 Hitler's forces invaded Poland. Chamberlain responded with a British declaration of war on Germany. In May 1940, after the disastrous Norwegian campaign, Chamberlain resigned and Winston Churchill became prime minister. Chamberlain served in Churchill's cabinet as lord president of the council. He died a few weeks after he left the office, on the 9 of November 1940.

4. Sir Winston Churchill When war broke out in 1939, Churchill became first lord of the Admiralty. In May 1940, Neville Chamberlain resigned as prime minister and Churchill took his place. His refusal to surrender to Nazi Germany inspired the country. He worked tirelessly throughout the war, building strong relations with US President Roosevelt while maintaining a sometimes difficult alliance with the Soviet Union.

5. Adolf Hitler Hitler wanted children with blond hair and blue eyes plus he wanted all Jewish people killed :-[ most people who got caught went to concentration camps located in Aushwitch, Dachau, Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen all in Austria and horrible if you were there.

6. Anne Frank In 1942, after Anne frank and her family had lived by the rules set by the Nazi party for two years, they went into hiding to escape from the persecution, imprisonment and maybe even death by the cruel Nazis. Just before the family hid themselves away, Anne ’ s parents bought her a present for her birthday, June 12th. It was a red checked diary. She took this new prized possession with her into hiding and spent over two years writing in it nearly every day at her desk in her new bedroom.

7. Protecting the People Anderson Shelters Anderson shelters protected people in ww2 so they did not get killed. During the early part of the war nothing much happened, there wasn't much to bomb in Walsall, so the shelters were never put to use which was a good thing as most of them being partially below ground had several feet of dark muddy stagnant water inside them, this problem was cured by the water being pumped out and the floor and internal walls up to ground level being coated with concrete several inches thick, no water came in after that, they were then fitted with bunk beds and looked quite dry and comfortable but still no one needed to use them. Morrison Shelters The Morrison shelter was not, I believe, as popular as the Anderson. Being an indoor shelter at least it remained dry and even warm, a luxury that the Anderson usually lacked. It keeps people safe even if there house gets destroyed. The Morrison shelter was warm because it was designed like an enormous bed with a lid. It took up about 12ft.X 6ft. of our living room floor and was about the height of our dining room table. Family members who were still at home during the blitz, plus whoever happened to be visiting when the air-raid siren sounded, would simply pile in. The body count would generally amount to three adults, three children and one dog.

8. CHILDREN BEING EVACUATED People expected cities to be bombed, as enemy planes tried to destroy factories. But bombs would hit homes and schools too, so children would be in danger. The government tried at the start of the war to 'empty the cities' of children and mothers, This was 'evacuation', to protect them from air raids. Children where evacuated from the big cities and went to live in the country side so they did not get hurt, some children liked living in the country side and some did not, because they missed there mum and dad or did not get on with the families they were staying with. but the evacuation was only for there protection.

9. PICTURES ABOUT WAR THE NEXT PICTURES ARE QUITE SAD BECAUSE IF IT WASN ’ T FOR THESE PEOPLE WE WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY. SO WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING, THINK OF ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO SACRIFICED THERE LIVES FOR US, A NEW GENERATION.
