The role of the Department of Human Services’ Juvenile Corrections Monitor: 4 To investigate allegations of abuse or neglect in juvenile corrections facilities. 4 Provide training to DOC employees. 4 Review DOC policies relating to juvenile rights. 4 Provide a semi-annual report to: –the Governor; –the Legislature; –the Corrections Commission; –the Secretary of the Department of Human Services; and –the Secretary of the Department of Corrections.

An evaluation of the report will be made and if appropriate: 4 The people involved will be interviewed. 4 Records will be reviewed. 4 Corrective action will be recommended. 4 A report will be made to the Secretary of the Department of Corrections, the Government Operations & Audit Committee, and to the Governor. If I make a report of abuse or neglect will my identity be disclosed? No, the identity of the person making a referral of abuse or neglect shall be kept confidential.
