2 The Need Our students’ future is cognitively demanding and globally competitive. The schools of our district are charged with promoting success: “The Mission of Gwinnett County Public Schools is to pursue excellence in academic knowledge, skills, and behavior for each student, resulting in measured improvement against local, national, and world- class standards.”

3 Gwinnett County Public Schools Part of the metropolitan Atlanta region 174,000 Pre-K through 12 th grade students in 134 schools 56% free and reduced-price lunch 31% Black; 28% Hispanic; 26% White; 10% Asian 3 time nominee and 2 time winner of The Broad Prize for Urban Education

4 Results 11 of 19 high schools participated in 2013-2014 All 19 high schools participated in 2014-2015 Created weighted means of 11 schools’ data elements 2014 GCPS scores were below the 2009 PISA US average in reading and math, and at the US average in science Science scores showed less variation than reading or math scores. Teacher-student relations were marked by large differences between “caring” (Most of my teachers are interested in my well being – 71% agreement) and “helpfulness” (If I need extra help, I will receive it from my teachers – 92% agreement).
