WELCOME TO THE JACKSON STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST PLEASE TURN OFF CELL PHONES

Amos 6:1-8 Woe to you who are at ease in Zion, And trust in Mount Samaria, Notable persons in the chief nation, To whom the house of Israel comes! Go over to Calneh and see; And from there go to Hamath the great; Then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Or is their territory greater than your territory? Woe to you who put far off the day of doom, Who cause the seat of violence to come near; Who lie on beds of ivory, Stretch out on your couches, Eat lambs from the flock And calves from the midst of the stall; Who sing idly to the sound of stringed instruments, And invent for yourselves musical instruments like David; Who drink wine from bowls, And anoint yourselves with the best ointments, But are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. Therefore they shall now go captive as the first of the captives, And those who recline at banquets shall be removed. The Lord God has sworn by Himself, The Lord God of hosts says: "I abhor the pride of Jacob, And hate his palaces; Therefore I will deliver up the city And all that is in it."

WOE UNTO THOSE WHO ARE AT EASE IN ZION Amos 6:1-8

THEN AND NOW Many at ease in the days of Amos – Had a false sense of security – Given to their luxuries & material possessions – Showed no concern for their poor brethren – Not see impending danger of God’s judgment

THEN AND NOW Many modern saints also at ease in Zion – Lukewarm, lethargic & lulled to sleep by Satan – Given to pursuit of materialism & pleasure – Show little concern for needy brethren – Fail to consider the coming judgment of God

Excuses Sometimes Heard For Failure To Do The Work

“THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME” AMOS 6:3 If Christians are at ease today, it is not because there is plenty of time. In fact, time and opportunity are limited. Job 7:6a Job 9:25-26 Psalm 39:4-5 Psalm 103:13-16 Ephesians 5:15-16 James 4:13-15

“THERE IS NOTHING TO DO” AMOS 6:4-6 If Christians are at ease today, it is not because there is nothing to do. In fact, there is much work to be accomplished. John 4:34-35 John 9:4-5 1 Corinthians 15:58 Ephesians 2:8-10

“THERE IS AN EXCESS OF WORKERS” If Christians are at ease today, it is not because there is an excess of workers. In fact, there is a shortage of workers. Matthew 9:35-38 Colossians 4:10-11 2 Timothy 4:9-12

ARE YOU AT EASE IN ZION? Like those of Amos’ day, the church at Laodicea was also at ease in Zion – Despite their complacency, they were facing desperate spiritual problems – God demands that all such individuals be zealous and repent (Revelation 3:14-19) We must be diligent & zealous in the Lord’s work (Titus 2:11-14).
