8 WHY DID THE US ENTER WW1 The British passenger liner Lusitania was sunk by a German U-boat was the Lusitania. 128 Americans were killed by this action. German policy of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare Germany declared the area around the British Isles a war zone, in which all merchant ships, including those from neutral countries, would be attacked by the German navy.

9 WHY DID THE US ENTER WW1 The Zimmerman Telegram was a messenger from the Germans to Mexico asking for their alliance in the war cause. This angered Americans because it would have brought WWI to the North American continent, and because the Germans promised Mexico American territories.

11 SCHLIEFFEN PLAN The Schlieffen plan was the first German offensive of WWI. The Germans attacked France by marching through Belgium.

12 NO MAN’S LAND No Man's Land was a barren void filled with craters and riddled with land mines and barbed wire. It was defended by machine guns and riflemen on both sides, making any attempt to cross it a terrifying experience for the soldiers. The area between opposing trenches.

Russia became the world’s first Communist country and its new name was the USSR(United Soviet Socialist Republics) In the spring of 1917, Russia changed from a monarchy (a government with a czar) to the world’s first Communist government.
