Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 EDG / Globus Meeting, 5-7 April “Obtaining an up-to-date understanding of the state of the Globus Toolkit, and communicating to Globus project members the goals and concerns of EDG.” “Defining a framework for future joint work that would be effective and mutually beneficial.”

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Attendees ISI: Carl Kesselman, Laura Pearlman, Ewa Deelman, Ann Chervenak ANL: Ian Foster, Steve Tuecke, Bill Allcock, Mike Wilde, other experts at different times. EDG: Steve Fisher (ATF), Francesco Prelz and Massimo Sgaravatto (WP1), Wolfgang Hoschek and Brian Tierney (WP2), Alex Martin (WP3), German Cancio (WP4), Andrew McNab and Franco Semeria (WP6), Fabrizio Gagliardi (PM).

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Decisions: Joint activities Include U.S. sites in the “production prototype” system. At least ANL and ISI, perhaps others— Caltech? UW? Others? Accelerate development of packaging and certain other Globus elements, to ensure that they are available for use by EDG group. Attempt to transfer some EDG technology (e.g., dynamic accounts, resource broker) to U.S., for use in say GriPhyN experiments.

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Decisions: Globus activities MDS-2 (have alpha already): GRIS performance, Index plug in, etc. GridFTP (have alpha already) GRAM job manager fix All this handled via packaging Replica management (alpha: integration with GDMP?) Define U.S. nodes to integrate into tests Prototype community authorization server (CAS)

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Decisions: EDG activities Use Globus 2.0 for M9. Group server (ie for grid-mapfile) EDG-specific data converters (for GRIS) Dynamic accounts (collaboration on requirements) Scheduler “(in addition to making all of this work)”

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Detailed schedule Apr 30: MDS II A1, Replica requirements May 31: MDS II A2 (Indexes), initial repackaged release (“Globus 2.0A”) Jun 30: Group CAS? Repackaged MDS 2.0 Jul 31: Final rep mgmt package - Feature Freeze Aug 31: Code Freeze (Sep 30: All done…)

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Need for more communication Globus CVS and internal developer lists accessible Legal framework: Consortium for Open Grid Software Continue Globus - EDG meetings Start Globus - EDG mailing lists for interested parties

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Future meetings Second joint meeting and Globus tutorial at EuroGlobus in Lecce (June 18-22) Third joint meeting after GGF2 in Washington Fourth joint meeting at GGF3 in Rome

Andrew McNab - Manchester HEP - 10 May 2001 Summary Globus 2.0 will emerge over the summer Globus Project has committed to specific milestones EDG has committed to testing + using it This all relies on developing a relationship with EDG as “collaborators rather than customers.”
