Z ONES OF R EGULATION Using the zones of regulation to help explain how you feel

T HERE ARE 4 Z ONES THAT WE WILL USE TO DESCRIBE HOW YOUR BRAIN AND BODY FEEL. Blue Zone Green Zone Yellow Zone Red Zone

B LUE Z ONE When you are in the blue zone your body is running slow such as when you are tired, sick, sad or bored. This is when your body and/or brain is moving slowly or sluggishly.

G REEN Z ONE When you are in the green zone it means you are “good to go” like a green light. You may feel happy, calm, focused and ready to learn. This is the zone that students generally need to be in to complete schoolwork and for getting along with others.

When you are entering the yellow zone, proceed with caution and slow down! The yellow zone describes when you start to lose control such as when you are frustrated, overwhelmed, silly, wiggly, excited, nervous or surprised. Y ELLOW Z ONE

R ED Z ONE When you are in the red zone, you are out of control, have trouble making good choices, and must stop. A person may be experiencing anger, rage, explosive behavior, panic, or terror when in the Red Zone. Being in the Red Zone can best be explained by not being in control of your own body.
