3 Objectives South Carolina Standards 1-5 Recognize and identify the value of a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. Use counting procedure to determine the value of the collection of coins. Know how to represent money using cent notation. Know how to count by 1’s,5’s,10’s, and 25’s.

5 Give it a try. Match them to their right match. Penny 1c Nickel 5c Dime 10c Quarter 25c

6 Counting Procedure There are two penny’s each penny equals one cent. So we can say 1+1=2 We now know that, two penny’s is equal to two cents. There are two nickels each nickel equals five cents. So we can say 5+5=10 We now know that, two nickels equals ten cents. There are two dimes each dime equals ten cents each. So we can say 10+10=20 We now know that, two dimes equal twenty cents.

7 Counting Procedures There are three quarters. Each quarter equals twenty five cents. So we can say 25+25+25=7 5 We now know that, three quarters is equal to seventy five cents.
