1. How do the photos of your magazine share similarities with the magazines that influenced your production?

2. My magazine represents similar social groups to magazines like ‘Big Cheese’ because the content is similar and it reflects the attitude I aimed to present. In the image used by big cheese pictured top right the poses and positioning of the three men is very similar to that in my main image on the right. One person it stood in front looking at the camera while the other two are stood behind in a triangle formation, looking off from the camera. The clothing worn in both images are also similar casual attire to portray the bands identity

3. How do the facial expressions/hair style represent your featured artist?

4. The two images differ in the facial expressions of the artists, in the first image the raised eyebrows and hands in front of the face of the man at the front cause him to appear confused, while the blank expressions of the other two men connote the content to be serious. In contrast in the second image the smirk of the boy at the front makes him appear mischievous and rebellious while the other two boys curious expressions as they look off causes them to appear unaware of the other band member. The difference between the two images signifies that the first magazine has a more serious tone while the second image represents a rebellious and against the norm magazine. The hair in the images are contrasting, in the first image the band members have dark, styled hair. One of the men is wearing a hat and the other has his hair spiked up messily suggesting that they are rebellious and vain. In the second image two of the band members have long hair representing them to be individual while the lack of styling causes them to appear down to earth and natural. The third band member is wearing a hat, however unlike in the first image the peak of his hat casts shadow over his face causing him to appear wore down to earth and mysterious. The natural look of the second image could be because the magazine focuses more on the music than the people which is suggested in the styled hair of the first image.

5. How does the shot type and angle play a part in the representation of your artist?

6. The shot type and angle of the images vary greatly, in the first image a mid shot at eye level is used. The eye level shot causes it to appear as if you are talking to the subject and and the mid shot causes the image to appear quite personal to the audience, creating a connection. In contrast in the second image a medium long shot at a low angle has been used. The low angle connotes power and prescence while the medium long shot could suggest that the audience will get a closer look at the band inside the magazine.

7. What impact did lighting have on the photos and the representation of the featured artist?

8. The first image is very bright without much shadow on the faces of the band members suggesting that they are not hiding anything and that the article on them is positive. The second image has quite a lot of shadow on the faces of the band and is not as bright as the first image which connotes mystery and a darker side to the band which may be explored in the magazine.

9. What impact did choice of costume have on the representation of the featured artist?

10. The clothing in both images are almost the same, t-shirts, hats, and jackets. This connects with the target audience as they are casual clothing which they would own themselves. The clothing isn’t branded so they target a wide audience however the clothing in the first image looks more expensive suggesting the magazine aims to reach a slightly higher social class which may be reflected in price although the difference is very minor.
