4. Foreshadowing Foreshadowing is a book or movie giving us hints that something is coming to change the whole story. Foreshadowing uses these hints to create suspense, but it does not give the whole book away. Some are subtle, and some are obvious.

In “Jones and the Stray” we find out within the first few pages Jones does not want to remember her past, she left in a hurry, and is outraged at Ah-Geez’s abuse. This foreshadows our discovery of her OWN abuse.
