2 Introduction L2 Data/L3 Control –[1] shows the performance comparison between L2 Relay and L2 Data/L3 Control Relay and proposes the scheme for L2 Data/L3 Control Relay; Analysis of Cons: –STIDs for AMSs are insufficient because actually they belong to the scope of ABSs. –Different processing for data plane and control plane, which causes ARS different from ABS; –Some signaling messages (REG, DSX) for control are required to get to ABS; Full L3 Relay is proposed.

3 Current Scheme L2 Data/L3 Control –Control Plane: R6 interface terminates on the RS; R6 messages can be carried over AAI_L2-XFER MAC management messages between the RS and BS. –Downlink: BS performs classification, removes the higher layer headers, keeps the message contents intact and sends it using AAI_L2-XFER, addressed to the STID of the RS and with FID=1 –Uplink: RS sends the message using AAI_L2-XFER to the BS with FID=1.

4 Current Scheme L2 Data/L3 Control –Data Plane: Downlink: GRE packet is de-tunneled by BS and the MS MAC PDUs are encapsulated into Relay MAC Packet and transmitted to the RS ; Uplink: MS MAC PDUs are encapsulated into Relay MAC PDU by the RS.
