3 EOG Breakdown by Standard for English Language Arts The Common Core State Standards are available at: http://www.corestandards.org The Common Core State Standards are divided into strands which address a specific set of College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards. These strands are reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language.

4 EOG Breakdown by Standard for English Language Arts Cognitive Rigor and Item Complexity Assessment items will be designed, developed, and classified to ensure that the cognitive rigor of the operational test forms align to the cognitive complexity and demands of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts. These items will require students to not only recall information, but also apply concepts and skills, make decisions, and explain or justify their thinking. Types of Items The Grades 3–8 ELA assessments will consist of four-response- option multiple-choice items (ie- Multiple Choice a-d) Delivery Mode Grades 3–8 ELA assessments will be designed for a paper/pencil administration

6 EOG Breakdown by Standard for Mathematics Cognitive Rigor and Item Complexity Assessment items will be designed, developed, and classified to ensure that the cognitive rigor of the operational test forms align to the cognitive complexity and demands of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics. These items will require students to not only recall information, but also apply concepts and skills and make decisions. Types of Items Grades 3 and 4 mathematics assessments will consist of four- response-option multiple-choice items. (ie- Multiple Choice a-d) Delivery Mode Grades 3–8 mathematics assessments will be designed for paper/pencil administrations and may have an online administration option.

7 The Importance of Grades for Promotion Students who have not received passing marks on report cards throughout the year will not be promoted. Retention will be based on parent/teacher input and report card grades, not EOG. EOG scores will not be released until the fall, students will not be promoted or retained based on the test.

8 BLITZ What is Blitz? EOG BLITZ is an intense review of ELA and Math standards taught throughout the year. When is BLITZ? BLITZ will begin the week of April 8th and go until EOG (The Week of May 20th) How will the day look? The students will have a half day of Math and a half day of Literacy. Science, Social Studies and Writing will be integrated with Literacy through reading passages.

9 What Can You Can Do At Home? Have your child read to you and ask them questions. Have your child log on to one of these sites nightly www.StudyIsland.com www.readingeggs.com www.ixl.com www.superkids.com (Ask your child's teacher for login information) Have your child memorize their multiplication facts!
