3 Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities (SRR) SRR oversees the administration of all GW’s academic and non-academic student disciplinary systems Emphasizes civility, integrity, and personal responsibility

4 Non-Academic Student Misconduct Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities (SRR) Addresses significant non-academic student misconduct which may lead to Loss of Housing, Suspension, or Expulsion through formal disciplinary hearings Office of Civility & Community Standards (CCS) Addresses incidents of minor or moderate non-academic student misconduct, which may result in an administrative record or a disciplinary record Focus on decision-making conversation through Warnings and Disciplinary Conferences Two Important Take Homes: Alcohol Medical Amnesty Program “Good Samaritan” Policy

5 Parental Notification By working together, students, parents and the university can guide a student’s success on GW’s campus both inside and outside the classroom and get the appropriate resources to help students in need SRR staff encourage students to contact their parents when they are involved in an academic or non-academic disciplinary matter Under the law, GW is limited in how we communicate to parents under the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) Academic Integrity Matters: The law does not permit GW to communicate with parents without the student’s written consent. Non-Academic Misconduct: The law does permit GW to communicate only pertaining to alcohol or other drug violations, provided the student is under the age of 21 at the time of notification. In all other cases, the law does not permit GW to communicate with parents without the student’s written consent.

6 Colonial Health Center Health Promotion and Prevention Services Organizes the Colonial Health Center’s outreach and health promotion efforts 1:1 meetings to discuss substance use (Brief Interventions) Educational workshops by request Resources (brochures, BAC cards, condoms, etc.) Training programs for student orgs, RA’s, professional staff and faculty Annual campus events: Be Wiser Week, Mix-Off, Chalk In Flu Clinics, blood pressure screenings, STI/STD testing National Screening Days (alcohol, depression) Resource for parents (send out information via parents newsletter) Social media (Facebook, Twitter)

7 Office Academic Integrity (AI) Facilitates hearings related to violations of the “Code of Academic Integrity” Outcomes may lead to Failure of Assignments or Academic Courses, Suspension, or Expulsion Provides educational initiatives to the GW community related to academic dishonesty
